During the Empire period (1830-1860) furniture design became very heavy and clunky. Because of this, antiques from this period are not popular with collectors today. Cannonball beds are the exception. They are very sought after. Our reproduction is from the earlier part of the period, before things became too massive. The Cannonball bed is our most popular bed. Our beds are made with mortise and tenon construction. They are held together with bed bolts and can be completely disassembled the way antique beds can. This type of construction makes the bed very rigid. If you grab a post and shake it as hard as you can, the post will flex before the joints will wiggle. Available in American Black Cherry or Maple with Tiger maple headboard.
