Southern Bow Back Windsor Side Chairs
Southern Bow Back Windsor Side Chairs
Most bow back side chairs are meant to go with several different arm chairs. As a result some folks will question why the bow of a side chair is square in cross section and the bow of the accompanying arm chair is round in cross section. Our answer to this is simply that this is the way the antique chairs were and for us, changing it would just be wrong. One thing that we do that is wrong, is that we sometimes use the wrong names for side chairs. We will use names like “continuous arm side chair” instead of the correct “bow back” or “hoop back”. We do this because we have many models of bow backs and this helps everyone identify which side chairs go with the arm chairs they were meant to go with. It may make antique collectors cringe, but we are we are simply trying prevent confusion.

Made with Oak bendings, Poplar, Seat and Maple turnings and available in any of our finishes. These three wood chairs will go nicely with our Cherry or Maple tables when finished in the same stain, however they will not be an exact match since they are not made of same wood as the tables. This chair is the side chair to be used with either the Southern Sack Back arm or the Southern Continuous Arm.

Furniture Finishes

About our stain colors: We make our own stains right here in our shop in Virginia. Mr. Case has designed 12 exclusive colors for our furniture. These special dye stains create colors that are much richer than those offered by the mainstream furniture industry. Unlike pigment stains that tend to mask the wood grain, our stains allow the grain to come alive in a variety of subtlety different shades. The down side to our stains is that they tend to be a little inconsistent. Things like the humidity and temperature on any given day can cause them to be lighter or darker. We can provide you with actual wood samples, however please be aware that the actual furniture will likely be different than the sample.

View larger samples of our finish selections by clicking on the small samples below. Please note that these colors are close approximations to the actual colors. Due to monitor variations and natural variations in the wood itself, the actual colors may vary from what you see here.
