Pencil Post Bed Many folks think of the pencil post bed as a Shaker design. The Shakers never made these and in fact the design is from the Chippendale period and pre-dates most shaker designs by many years. Our beds are made with mortise and tenon construction. They are held together with bed bolts and can be completely disassembled the way antique beds can. This type of construction makes the bed very rigid.
